VitalCare Hospice Bereavement
Hospice Bereavement Care
Hospice care doesn't end with the death of a patient; it continues with grief support for family members. For more than a year following a patient’s death, Hospice offers support through mailings, group meetings and one-on-one counseling for family members and caregivers.
In addition to family and caregiver support, Hospice offers a number of grief programs throughout the year that are also open to the general public. All sessions are free
Support Groups
Support Groups are held to benefit anyone whose loved one has died. Gather with others in small group sessions to share experiences, learn coping skills, and make new friends.

“Understanding Your Grief”
This is a series of five group sessions offered twice yearly. The program is designed to help the bereaved understand the power that grief can play in one’s life and learn new ways of coping with grief.
“Handling the Holidays”
The holiday season is a time for traditions and can be especially difficult for survivors after the loss of a loved one. This one-night workshop will focus on assisting you to develop specific plans that will enable you to handle the holidays in a way that is comfortable to you.
.
"When Grief Comes To School”
This is a multi-media program designed to help educators, parents and other caregivers learn about how children grieve and ways to help them cope. This informative presentation ranges from identifying the signs of grief in children to developing a response plan in case of an accident or sudden death in the school community.
Personalized Presentations
The Hospice team can design workshops or presentations to address the needs of your church group, school or civic organizations. These special programs may be requested any time throughout the year.
Remembrance Bears
The Teddy Bear program has become a big part of our Bereavement services for families we have served. The idea is to make a Bear for the family from the patient’s clothing.
This way, family members and caregivers can have a very personal remembrance of their loved one, something to hold and hug.
There is no charge to families for the bears. Volunteers have offered to sew the bears from patient clothing.

Cheboygan-area seamstresses Dawn Barr and Betty Schaefer have each produced more than 100 bears for Hospice families. |
|
Each bear is hand-made and has a personality of its own. Family members get a great deal of comfort from the bears. Tears of pain are followed by fond memories as the person receiving the bear hugs it to them.
We have made more than 350 bears in the short time we have offered this program. We are very lucky to have talented volunteers in our area who make these bears for our families.
